COLLABORATIONS

Collaborations are important for the culture of independent beer. They keep us relevant, make it fun, interesting and help make new friends or solidify long term relationships.

There are venues that have been pouring our beer since we started and we celebrating these friendships through an exclusive limited edition beer.

St John | Eccles Stout

St John is one of our favourite restaurants and we’re not alone as it has been ranked 8th best restaurant in the world, inventing the nose to tail cooking.

Our collaboration started in 2017 when we took their famous eccles cakes and mixed it with our dry Irish stout, Deep. It was a hit and so we did it again the following year. With the exception of the pandemic, we team up every year with the goal of improving on the last. They tweak their eccles recipe and we tweak ours. This year they added coriander, cassia, ginger, fennel to the usual currants, cloves and nutmeg while we changed our malt bill to a more oat based stout. It was the most balanced sessionable vintage yet.

Nomad Hotel

NoMad’s Roast Chicken dish is opulent and rich
stuffed with homemade brioche, foie gras and
black truffle.

Our schwarzbier was designed to match the
complexity whilst cutting through the big flavours.

NoMad contributed illusrations by their own hospitality
team member, Claudia Newman.

We printed the artwork directly to can with gold glossy
reflective text and gold lids to celebrate the luxurious
nature of the Roast Chicken.

Fowl Play was released in November 2023
and is available exclusively at NoMad hotel,
served in their atrium restaurant, cocktail bar
and room service menu.

Smokestak | Rice Lager

Smokestak is arguably the UK’s best BBQ
restaurant and 40ft has had the privilege of being
their house beer since their restaurant opened in 2016.

Their journey began in 2013 as a street
food concept in a yard next to our brewery
where their founder, David Carter and
40ft’s co-founder Steve Ryan became friends.

In August 2023 they celebrated 10 years of
Smokestak with a one day BBQ event in
Shoreditch and, naturally we collaborated
on a beer especially for the event.

The event was scheduled for Saturday 19th August 2023
in an outdoor car park in Shoreditch. There was over 500 guests and 10 BBQ stations.

We wanted to brew a light Summer smashable 5.0% lager
to cut through the big flavours of the grills.

We used rice to lighten the body
and allow the hops to shine through.

East London Liquor Co | Whisky

A collaboration six years in the making.

Most beer collaborations can be turned around in a few months but this hyper local collaboration started in 2017 when we were both fledgling businesses.

The concept started when the a distiller, Andy, from East London visited our taproom in 2017 to try our Dry Irish stout, Deep 5.0%. He was fascinated by the malt bill of seven malts and a conversation started with our co-founder, Ben Ott, about how a whisky with the same complex grain bill would work.

We brewed a 10% ABV version of Deep (Deepest) and sent them 800 litres which they distilled and aged.

After six years of aging, between distillation and the angels share, we had just 47 bottles of collaboration whisky. We agreed that there were too few to sell and so we decided to come together and celebrate with a party at 40ft Taproom.

Over the coming weeks we announced where these bottles were and anyone who asked for the East London special would be given a boiler maker of the collaboration and a can of Disco Pils.
